Nelson Bay
Nelson Bay, home of the Port Stephens fishing fleet and departure point for dolphin watching tours, is a scenic north coastal town with endless panoramic views in every direction. Known for its gorgeous white beaches, clear waters, subtropical climates and prolific wildlife; Nelson Bay is a seaside resort town just 2hrs north of Sydney.
More than 160 bottlenose dolphins call the local waters home; Port Stephens is also the port-in-passing for over 3000 migrating whales each year. Keeping up with the times is the Nelson Head Inner Lighthouse which has been operating since 1872; previously lit by a kerosene lamp, it now runs on solar energy. The cottage offers local history, marine info and refreshments. Other highlights of the Nelson Bay area include water and nature based activities, such as fishing, scuba diving, and exploring untamed natural wilderness and the extensive sand dunes of Stockton Beach.
